I usually keep my words short for weddings. I often say (and it should be my tag line) "you are art" so let the images speak for themselves. But when there's a story before the day, I feel like I should explain.
I've known the Spiegel family since I was in high school so it was very special to get to know Melissa, who is indeed so very right for Jordan. It was a summertime themed wedding: little flip flops etched into the monogramed sparklers, chalkboard signs, an outdoor tent with lounge seating, an ice cream man scheduled for dessert, flip flops as favors - Melissa's shoes: a lovely silver pair of JCrew crystal and flower embellished flip flops. Wedding photos were planned by the ocean. Maggie Brucker of DoubleGEvents poured over every last detail, beautifully. Then what was maybe rain, turned into a maybe storm that became a hurricane that shut down all transportation: planes, trains and automobiles. The city shut down the venue but Maggie did not miss a beat - the ceremony to be held at the getting ready hotel and The Westport Inn was the new reception site. Whatever the change, the can opener, 10 bottles of water and four ponchos in our extra suitcase, come rain or Irene, we were on the first train out of Grand Central Station to the wedding.
When you see Melissa and Jordan's wedding photos you will not see Hurricane Irene. You will see the sparkly blue eyed mother of the bride also named Irene. You will see light and sunshine. You'll see happiness and a lot of guests! You won't see mother nature anywhere because nothing was going to stop this wedding. Vendors adapted to the conditions, over 160 guests were notified the night before, fixes were made by bridesmaids hours before the wedding. Here's the very best part of the story and one I often think of: Melissa and Jordan were unaffected by the changes because all that mattered was their love. That my friends, is what marriage is all about. Congratulations Melissa and Jordan! xoxo, Marnie + David
