DIY | Muslin Sunglasses Bag

FINAL

Sometimes the bulky case that your sunglasses came with isn't so handy for every day travel. Instead of jamming your glasses into your pocket, I found this adorable muslin sunglasses bag that is easy and fun to make. The original project is from Momtastic but since I strayed from the directions a bit, here's how I made mine.

|Materials|

No-1

* Freezer Paper
* Muslin Fabric
* String (I used a ribbon from an old necklace)
* Fabric Paint
* Scissors
* Sewing Machine
* Brush
* Two small pieces of cardboard (8"x10" should do it)
* X-Acto Knife
* Pencil
* Sunglasses (for measuring)
* Ruler

|Instructions|

1. Trace around a pair of sunglasses on two pieces of muslin leaving at least two inches on each side.

2. Iron each piece about 1/2 inch down at the top and sew along that line.
3. Pin the two pieces, right sides together and sew along the sides and bottom, starting right under the hemmed seam on the top.
Turn it right side out afterwards.

4. Snip off a square where the two corners where the top hem meets the side.

5. Attach a safety pin to some ribbon or and string it through the front side hem on top and then loop it around through the back hem.
Pull the string to even them out.

6. Cut out a shape of a pair of sunglasses on freezer paper. I drew mine freehand as they did on Momtastic but you find an image online, print it out and voila! no drawing. Cut out the inside eyes and the small section in between the eyes - know that you you will be using the outline of the design so cut the outside shape in one piece. Save the insides (lenses) of the glasses and the small piece of the bridge (if desired).

7. Cut a piece of your cardboard to fit in between the two layers of your bag. Insert it between layers. Place outside piece and lenses on the bag and iron.

8. Brush on fabric paint of your choice. Let dry and apply at least one more coat. When it's completely dry, tear off the freezer paper carefully.
